Pattern 1 was made using the FPC with a setting of Ambient Groove 9. This was used for the entire loop. For Pattern 2 I opened SymSynth and put a D4 note in, I preceded to open the riff machine and after "rolling the dice" a few times I found a sound I liked. This was also used for the entire loop.
For the automation, I used the SVF Cut on my SymSynth . I had it sloping up and down with curved lines (at 17-62-22-62-28-73-17-47-17%) , it went up four times and down three times, the last thing I did was add a straight slope down to the level where I had started (17%) so the sound would mesh properly when it restarted the loop.
This is one of your better pieces. It could be a bit more developed, but you do meet the critera for automation.
